Marty Fox offers a unique set of skills, knowledge and experience when it comes to workplace accident investigation. He believes there are very few people who have been on ‘both sides of the fence’ during accident investigations, with roles in Police, OSH, Fire and high-risk industries including the construction, fuels and electricity industries. His background includes:

NZ Police 1981-95 and 2016-18
A skilled investigator and interviewer with almost 17 years Police experience, he worked for several years as an enquiry Constable attached to a busy CIB office with responsibility for dealing with volume crime (car theft, burglary) drugs and serious offences against the person.

In addition, he trained and worked as a fire scene investigator, intelligence analyst, and as part of general duties carried out many accident investigations relating to both workplaces and road traffic crashes. His second more recent ‘stint’ in Police as a National Manager had the responsibility for oversight of all H&S investigations, including personally leading one major investigation into several Police officers being wounded by gunfire.

Very comfortable in a courtroom, Marty has given evidence as officer in charge and as a witness in dozens of cases in both District and High courts. And like all experienced investigators Marty has a well developed ‘B.S. radar’ that helps establish the veracity of those involved.

Department of Labour/OSH 2005-06
In his time as a warranted OSH inspector (construction) with the forerunner to WorkSafe, while mainly focused on prevention Marty also carried out many accident investigations with a number leading to successful prosecution.

Fuelquip/ECL Group; Electra 2006-2016
Working in the private sector for large multinational clients meant exposure to many workplace accidents, often as lead investigator. Receiving further training from all the major oil companies in root cause investigation and behavioural based safety has taken him to another level, and his expertise was acknowledged by these clients in NZ and Australia.

Fast Aid Ltd and Fox Safework Solutions Ltd 1996-present
With commercial acumen gained from business ownership and working at senior level in both the private and public sectors Marty understands the business implications of a serious workplace accident and will strive to mitigate these.
